The first of two weeks in Wuhan was an eventful one.  I was here as a visiting scholar about 4 years ago. This time I returned as a Chutian Scholar of Hubei Province at Wuhan Textile University, a five-year commitment to interact with the faculty and students there. My host, Professor Yi Yang, former visiting scholar at UF, met me at the airport with Dean Ouyang. When we got to campus, we had lunch with the university President. The Vice-President presented my letter of appointment at a faculty meeting on Thursday. I had a productive meeting with the faculty and gave a presentation on my work to a receptive group of students. In between I have been well fed and well cared for.

Today Professors Yang and Cao and my interpreter, Yawei, took me to the fantastic Art Museum and Hubei Provincial Museum. I saw some interesting contemporary work as well as some great pots and bronzes from this region. It is rich in history and culture. Dinner outdoors in a scenic restaurant next to the famous East Lake topped off the week in a wonderful way.
