The highlight of this week was the opening of the collaborative exchange exhibition at Wuhan Textile University between their ceramics and graphic design areas and the University of Florida’s ceramics and graphic design areas. Artists were paired up with a ceramic object and packaging design. The traditional red table with a signature book for those exhibiting to sign awaited us. The President was called away on business, but he sent a representative from his office to speak on his behalf. The Dean of the College of the Fine Art was very pleased and welcomed all in attendance. I have limited the images I include in this blog, but I will have more of the pieces in the show to share soon.
At the opening, I spoke briefly about this collaboration and exchange as just the beginning of more to come. I noted that though we are from opposite sides of the world, yet connected by our passion for art and education. I carefully packed a suitcase of 10 pieces from the faculty at Wuhan and will be bringing them back to UF to have our part of the exchange exhibition this coming academic year.
This was a fitting end to my Chutian Scholar position for this year. I look forward to next year’s continuation and future growth of our exchange.
