I traveled to Zibo, Shandong Province, from Shanghai on the high-speed rail train on Sunday. It took only 5 hours in cushy seats. Our organizer is Janet Deboos from Canberra, Australia. The group consists of another Australian, a textile artist, Susan Caffin, and Paul Mathieu from Canada. Janet has been working with the Huaguang Ceramic Company for many years now, designing for them. She has invited artist over the years to come and work with her here. Paul has been here in the past. It is my first time working with them and I hope not the last. I am designing a teapot and before I leave on Friday I will have a maquette, plans and a decal design for them to work with.
Their new gallery and show room are exquisite. We are working in the design department, which is so new it is not yet complete. The president and manager of the company have been exceptional hosts. It sure does not feel like factory work!
