The Kumbum Monastery was a very interesting place to visit; despite the rain and the fact that we could not take pictures inside many of the temples out of respect to the worshipers.  There was a diverse mix of tourists and devotees to Buddha.  The image of painted sculptures are made of yak butter, yes, yak butter, and then painted.  Yak butter is also used for offerings and eating.
